Every once in a while, an airsoft platform comes along that completely shatters the mould. Inspired by Magpul’s legendary, covert prototype folding machine gun concept, the Maruyama FMG-9 is the ultimate blend of James Bond stealth and high-speed airsoft performance.
Folded down, it looks like nothing more than an unassuming, compact polymer briefcase or tech box. But drop the charging handle latch, and with a single flick of your wrist, it snaps open into a fully stocked, extended-magazine submachine gun ready to rain plastic downrange. Whether you are hunting down a VIP player in a Milsim game or clearing tight rooms in a CQB arena, the element of surprise is entirely yours.
The engineering behind the deployment mechanism is pure magic. In its collapsed state, the FMG-9 measures a tiny 260mm x 150mm—small enough to drop inside a standard backpack or carry cleanly in one hand. When it’s time to breach, pulling the deployment lever causes the stock, pistol grip, trigger guard, and sights to spring outward simultaneously, locking instantly into a 490mm tactical SMG layout.
This isn't a fragile prop; the core firing engine is built upon VFC's highly respected, gas-efficient Glock 18C blowback system. It utilizes a full gas blowback system that drives a snappy, crisp metal bolt back and forth inside the polymer frame shell. It delivers a punchy recoil impulse and guarantees fantastic field reliability.
Tucked inside the rear of the bolt layout is a functional fire selector switch. Keep it on semi-auto for precise, snappy placement shots, or click it into full-auto mode to unleash the full cyclic rate of the G18C engine, emptying the magazine in a terrifying wall of BBs within seconds.
To replicate the original lightweight design, Maruyama constructed the outer folding frame from a heavy-duty, fibre-reinforced polymer blend. It strikes a perfect structural balance, creating a weapon that weighs a comfortable 1.3kg with the magazine inserted. It's agile enough to hip-fire but feels incredibly rigid once locked into your shoulder.
Firepower requires ammo. The FMG-9 ships out of the box with a heavyweight 42-round extended gas magazine. Because the core engine is standard VFC architecture, the mag well is cross-compatible with standard Tokyo Marui, WE, and VFC Glock 17/18C style magazines, making sourcing spares incredibly easy.
